The Power of Blending OptionsAfter publishing my last article on the Process of Making an Icon, I got a few requests for more indepth knowledge on Blending Options, and a more explicit walkthrough of their direct usage.
Now, Blending Options are one of the first things Photoshop Novices stumble upon. The infancy of adding layer styles often leads to a short period of horrible drop shadows and cringeworthy bevels. Ironicly, this easily available styling is one of the harder things to master. Blending options is all about manipulating individual layers to obtain a certain effect. It's a key aspect of creating icons, and will help you create textures, shading and highlighting.

The Making of an IconI've had a few requests for insights into the process of making icons. Instead of answering individually, I've decided to make this the first subject of a range of articles to be authored at PixelResort.com.
This won't be a tutorial or a step-by-step walkthrough, more like a general guideline based on my own experience. It's how my workflow crops up.
To illustrate the creation of an icon, I've decided to redraw my old TextEdit icon from the bottom up.

PixelResort v.2 Launch!Wow. It's been a long time since i've used my DA profile for anything else than the occational Inspirational browsing. Well, i've got some great news.
Between University assignments and Freelance work ive been pouring alot of time into a complete redesign of my site PixelResort.com
After launching the first incarnation of PixelResort back in November 07 i was overwhelmed with the positive response; visitors by the thousands, personal and work related mails from all over the world and alot of fine publicity in the blogosphere. Its been a tremendous experience both professionally and personally, a hearty thanks to all who made this sites infancy so special. A couple of months wiser, and more hours than i care to account for, im finally able to welcome you to this second version of PixelResort. While i cared much for the pixelish look of the old site, every designer must mature and constantly seek to renew and refine.
1 Month at the Resort
PixelResort.com has been up for exactly 1 month today. And what a month! Thank you to all who checked in at the resort, had a stroll around and brought home a few souvenirs. This past month more than 10.000 guests from more than 100 countries visited more than 23.000 pages.
I was featured at a number of blogs and webmagazines, some of the more prominent ones being:
Intenta (Spanish Blog)
And mentioned at around 50 other sites.
A resounding thank you to all who blogged or otherwise mentioned pixelresort to their respective readers and peers.
You may have noticed a few visual changes during this past week. A new submenu at the front page, but also some other interface tweaks. Change should be constant. Hope you like
Safari Pith Helmet IconEnough with the Compass...
Here's an icon for all of you who have gotten tired of the old compass for Safari. This is a Pith Helmet for a real Safari user! Leopard ready, Jungle ready!

Launch present: Pixelicious
In celebration of my new site launch, i'm releasing a developer icon set of 150 32x32 icons called Pixelicious. The icons vary slightly in size, and is a mish mash of a couple of projects joined and later extended into this package. It's mainly intended for developers, but go ahead and use these anywhere you can find a place for them.
Thank you for your continuing support.
Thank you for the Daily Deviation! My icon TextEdit was the deviation that was so lucky to be graced with a DD.
Thank you to livius for featuring it!
It has all left me with alot of exposure, and a boost of pageviews. Here is a quick view of my 24 hours of internet fame evidented by my profile traffic.
If that wasn't enough, i was also featured for the second time on the Macthemes blog weekly wrapup.
So thank you to all who visited, and to those who are sticking around adding my work to their favorites, commenting and putting me on their watchlists - i can't thank you enough, hope you stick around some more! I'll try to make it worth your time!

Gallery UpdatesSpring and a sense of change in the Air. I finally got around to making quite alot of much needed updates to my gallery.
Most of my photography has recieved updates in one way or the other, and there's been some spring cleaning aswell with a few deletions and stuff moved to scraps. Heres a few words on the updates
Huge images begone!
Almost all of my pictures have had their size reduced. This is something i've wanted to do for a long time. Being a webdeveloper i, for one should have my filetypes and sizes in order, and in most cases there is no need for ridiculously large files. This has now been corrected.
Most of my photography has been resized, i see no reason to upload much larger than 800x600 or thereabouts resolutions.
My borders and framing has been ... well... experimental to say the least. I've tried different things, but gone with a philosophy that says less border more picture. Therefore i have settled for a small minimalistic black frame for m

I’ve realized over the years that I can’t draw everything myself, and I’ve damaged my hands by trying to draw all of my comics on my own. My followers are always asking when the next chapter of Fisheye Placebo or Knite is coming out, and it always pains me to say not yet. I can’t draw for more than a few hours a day now before the pain sets in.
I’m still determined to finish the comics I started, but I know I’m going to need help. I’ve been dabbling in 3D backgrounds for Fisheye Placebo, but I still had to build them myself, which is very time consuming and damaging to my hands in different ways.
I’ve been thinking a lot and I want to move my comic creating techniques to the next level and incorporate both 3D characters and 3D backgrounds. I’m not the most skilled when it comes to 3D programs, and I don’t have the time or health to create all the models myself, so I am looking

Updates as of October2009: Missing Halloween's story was created. Discontinued.
2010: Attempted to rework in 3D. Failed. Discontinued.
2013: Revived and started the animation production. Didn't reach Halloween. Hiatus.
2014: Resumed and held a contest. Didn't reach Halloween. Hiatus.
2015: Resumed. Missing Halloween didn't miss Halloween!
For the past month, me and Negyek were hard at work, day and night, to finish Missing Halloween. Later on, Procrastacat and VenBright were hired to give various voices for the ending scene. All of these are, of course, paid jobs, thanks to my Patreon supporters.
By November 29, the animation is officially done. All 8+ minutes of it.
How to get Popular as an Artist (EDIT)EDIT: Sooooo, this journal definitely proved my thoughts and point. Congratulations to myself, this is ironically my most popular journal on my DA.
NOW! I want to clear something first as many people seem to be mistaking and sort of bashing in the comments. People who do this type of content are not bad nor should be shamed. That is, if you really enjoy doing this type of content, there is nothing wrong drawing your favorite characters, wolves, cats, sexual content, tutorials, ect. (minus the drama... like seriously, this world needs less of that). I'm just a WEEE BIT tired of seeing young people and people that do art go straight into doing this because they get more noticed or this is the only way to get anywhere. They complain or abandon their passion/love that isn't 'oh so popular' (because it doesn't have advertisements/a pre-built fanbase, or a giant movie/tv show/game behind it) and move into something else that is trending just so they can be noticed. I know you want feedback.
The 'FNAF Sister Location' Anti-Hate RantOK, so everyone should have seen Scott's new teaser by now.
I was not going to write about this originally (so forgive me for rushing this journal), since I figured that literally everyone knows about the news by now, but the way people are announcing it and reacting to it disturbs me. I thought we were better than this, but I guess not.
Literally everywhere I go today, everyone I've seen is spamming memes like and saying that Scott is milking the series and beating a dead horse. Even people who have "left" the FNAF fandom and have decided to pop back in just to put in their discouraging, even hating, opinions. It's so bad, that I feel people are hating JUST because it has become cool to hate, as some kind of herd mentality.
Well guess what? It doesn't matter what anyone thinks! Scott is clearly going to do what Scott is going to do! The amount of hate th
